Love equals bliss Fern with her eyes closed

The days seem to merge at this time of year, cold, dark and particularly foggy, just miserable. I long for a frosty, sunny day, but it is almost December and the temperatures are relatively high enough for the grass to keep growing, even though I’m complaining of cold and have started to wear my woolly pompom hat. It is the time of year for getting things done early, or having to wear a head torch! So I have garlic cloves to plant soon, potatoes, which have been kept in the soil, ready to be be harvested, the last few tomatoes picked and so much mud, with all the rain we have had, that the polytunnel trip is an adventure in itself!

The chickens are being allowed a brief half hour out of their run, while we are there to keep an eye on them, we don’t have reports of avian flu, in our area, but are remaining vigilant. The sheep are coming more regularly for grass nuts and even having the odd nibble at the hay. Horses are happy in the barn with the sheep around their legs, although if the weather gets snowy, I have plans to keep the sheep in, if needed. Beauty and Ruby are eating well and have good winter coats, I have decided not to rug Beauty, as she may get her legs tangled, she is in her 30’s and has survived healthily since I had her as a two year old also having free access to shelter means she doesn’t often get wet, apart from rolling in the mud. My cheeky sheep are delighting in picking grass from the most twiggy places they can find, so are turning up with trailing vegetation, to be gently pulled off or teased out of damp wool, I think that they are doing it on purpose, so that they get extra fussing time!
